As the upcoming transfer window approaches, Tottenham face several important decisions.

In addition to assessing potential transfers, Spurs are also focused on extending the contracts of players integral to the club’s plans.

One key player in this regard is club captain Heung-min Son, who has less than 18 months remaining on his current contract, expiring in June of the following year.

It was recently reported by Sky Sports’ Michael Bridge that Tottenham are engaged in talks with their captain regarding a new deal.

Tottenham confident they can agree deal with Son

The latest report from Football Insider indicates that Spurs are ‘confident’ a new agreement will be reached.

Son’s importance to Tottenham cannot be overstated. Since assuming the captaincy, he has played a pivotal role, particularly following the departures of Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris.

The versatile attacker has emerged as the club’s leading goalscorer in the Premier League this season, scoring 16 goals and providing 9 assists in his 30 appearances so far.

According to the report, Son will be offered a substantial package in recognition for his consistent performances for the club over the past few years, particularly as he has become their talismanic figure in attack following Kane’s exit.

Spurs signed him back in 2015 in a €30 million deal from the German side Bayer Leverkusen. The upcoming year will mark Son’s decade-long career in North London. In the 9 years he has been at the club, he has scored 161 and assisted 83 in 403 games.

The 31-year-old presently earns £190,000 in weekly wages, as per his contract extension signed during the summer of 2021.

Securing Son’s long-term commitment would be a significant boost for Tottenham as they seek to build a competitive squad under manager Ange Postecoglou.

As negotiations progress, Spurs remain optimistic about retaining their talismanic figure in attack for the foreseeable future.
