Lando Norris claims McLaren ‘needs more’ to consistently challenge Ferrari and Red Bull in 2024
Peter Casey-USA TODAY Sports

Lando Norris produced a sensational drive during the 2024 Miami Grand Prix. He amassed his maiden victory in the sport on the back of the performance output from the MCL38, but ahead of Imola, he has admitted that his team needs a lot more to consistently challenge the Ferraris and Red Bulls.

The Milton-Keynes-based team has started the ongoing campaign from where they left off last season. After six rounds, the outfit has already amassed four Grand Prix wins and the Fred Vaseeur-led Ferrari has also shown tremendous signs of improvement.

While McLaren managed to get the jump on both outfits in Miami, Lando Norris is not getting ahead of himself!

But we need more if we want to challenge Ferrari more consistently, if we want to challenge Red Bull more consistently. The team are doing a great job, they made some good steps and we have more things hopefully coming in the future, and those are what we need to beat them more often. Lando Norris said in an interview with F1

The 24-year-old has made it quite clear that upgrades are going to play a key role in determining where the Woking-based team ends up this year. As things stand, the outfit is comfortably in third place in the Constructors Championship with 124 points to its name!

Lando Norris is ‘confident’ in the rate of development of the MCL38

While Lando Norris has admitted that the MCL38 needs consistent improvements to keep up with Ferrari and Red Bull, he has also indicated that he is pleased with how the team is doing. Norris is confident in the pace at which his team has been putting upgrades on the 2024 challenger.

Norris won the Miami GP by a margin of 7 seconds over the reigning world champion, Max Verstappen!

I’m confident with how the team are doing with our rate of development, which is better than any other team on the grid, that next year we can challenge a lot more often for wins, and in the big picture, hopefully challenge for a title. Lando Norris said in the same interview

The McLaren F1 team has been on an upward trajectory since the midway point of the 2023 F1 season. Since then, the outfit has not looked back and has kept on coming up with new things regularly. Keeping in view everything that has been discussed, the next few events could also see Norris and Oscar Piastri pulling off some sensational results.
